Science: Grasshoppers made their own erupting volcanoes!

The Grasshoppers pre-k class traveled to Japan as part of their around the world in 80 plates inquiry study.  While reading about the geography of Japan they found out that the country is made up of 6,852 islands. These islands formed because of volcanic activity in the area!! The Grasshoppers became interested in what volcanoes look like and how they erupted. So after looking at books and pictures they decided to make their own volcano and had it erupt during Science!

Inquiry: The Beetles Class Store Celebration

The Beetles pre-k class had their culminating project celebration of their Gift Study, where they turned their classroom into "The Beetle Class Store!" They went to stores and studied photos of various stores in order to figure what they would need to do. The children sold their own products that they made; such as necklaces, dog and bird treats, ornaments and stationary! There were store greeters who gave out entrance tickets and even a checkout person. Each ticket was sold for $1 and allowed the purchase of 1 item from the store. The kids helped make all of the signs and manned the booths.

The beetles made $65 and they will decide together what gift they'd like to buy for their classroom. It was a great celebration!

Inquiry: The Bumblebees's Community Study Diorama/Interactive Map

The amazingly artistic Bumblebees created this fabulous interactive map of our neighborhood. Check out the pizza place, buses, playground and they even remembered the pet store!

Technology: Brainpop Jr. did a presentation

Brainpop Jr. came to The Co-op School and showed the Spiders (and the teachers) how to  use their cool short videos to introduce and review various subject matters. Then we played a really fun game together about tadpoles!
